We compile specifications directly from manufacturers, energy rating databases, and retailer listings. We don't accept manufacturer data at face value — where independent test data is available, we cross-reference it. Prices are sourced from major Australian retailers.

We translate the jargon

Every manufacturer uses different names for the same technologies — we translate them into one standardised, comparable spec. Samsung's "Twin Cooling Plus," LG's "DoorCooling+," Haier's "ABT No Frost," and Fisher & Paykel's "ActiveSmart" all describe variations of multi-zone cooling — we map them all to the same standardised field so you can compare across brands. This is the core of what we do, and it's painstaking manual work.

We match you to your needs

When you take our quiz, we weight your answers against our database using a two-tier system. Hard requirements — budget ceiling, physical dimensions, must-have features — eliminate products that won't work for you. Soft preferences — energy rating target, style preference, brand familiarity — influence the ranking within the qualifying pool. The result is your personalised top 5: products that actually match your household's situation, not just the most popular models. Within that ranking, we cap results at two per brand, so your top 5 isn't variants of one product line.
