Single oven

Most kitchens - the default built-in

Steam oven

Cooks who want a second cavity that does more

Adds steam to the cavity, either as assist or as the primary heat source. 78 of the models we list. Read the steam type before you buy - assist and full steam are priced and used very differently.

Freestanding cooker

Replacing an existing cooker, straightforward installation

Oven and cooktop in one unit that slides into a standard gap. Available in gas, electric, and dual fuel. The simplest installation of any type here - no cabinetry work, no separate cooktop cut-out. 50 of the 360 ovens we list.

Double oven

Households cooking two dishes at two temperatures

Two cavities, usually one large and one small, so a roast and a dessert can run at once. 28 of the models we list. Worth knowing: our catalogue types 14 of those 28 as double ovens when they are really freestanding upright cookers with two cavities - 9 of them 54cm wide, 4 at 110cm - so a "double oven" result may be a freestanding cooker rather than a built-in pair. The genuine built-in group is the other 14. We're reclassifying these at the next catalogue import; until then, check the product name.
