Privacy Policy

You can browse the guides, use the tools and take the quiz without an account and without telling us anything about yourself. If you create an account, we store your email address and the results you choose to save. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't send marketing email.

Nothing, for most of what the site does. Browsing, the buying guides, the calculators and the quiz all work without an account. Your quiz answers are scored on our server and thrown away when the request finishes. They are not written to any database or log.

If you create an account, we store your email address, and a display name and profile picture link if your sign-in provider gives us one. Signing in with Google also stores the sign-in tokens Google issues, so the link between your account and your Google account keeps working. Signing in by email link creates a short-lived token that is used once and then removed.

If you save a result, we store the results screen you saw: the category, the list of matches, a one-line summary of the criteria you chose, and two counts we show alongside them. We do not store your raw quiz answers - only that derived criteria line.

If you share a result, we store the same snapshot under an unguessable link. A shared snapshot carries no name, email or account ID, so it does not identify you. See Shared links below for how long it lasts.

Automatically, on every request, our host records standard server logs - time, page, status, IP address and browser user agent. We hold your IP address for one more purpose: a short counter that stops one visitor from hammering the site. If our bot filter blocks a request, we log the page, the reason and the browser user agent.

The only cookies this site sets are the ones our sign-in library needs: a session cookie, a security token, and a couple of short-lived cookies that carry you through the sign-in handshake. They are all first-party. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts.

We use Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you. A handful of events tell us that a quiz was started, completed, saved or shared. Each one carries a category name and nothing else.

Our fonts are served from our own site, so loading a page makes no request to Google Fonts.

Account data and saved results are stored in a database in Sydney. Shared result snapshots and the rate-limit counters are also stored in Sydney.

Some processing happens outside Australia. The servers that run this site are in the United States, so a request you make is processed there before the page comes back. Sign-in emails are sent through a provider that processes them in the United States. Signing in with Google involves Google's global infrastructure.

Four suppliers handle information on our behalf: our host, our database provider, our shared-link and rate-limit store, and the service that sends sign-in emails. Google sees a sign-in if you use Google to sign in.

That is the whole list. We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers, and there is no code on this site that sends it anywhere else.

• No sale of your personal information.
• No mailing list and no marketing email. The only email we send is your sign-in link.
• No profiling, and no tracking you across other sites.
• No contact form that stores what you write. The contact page opens your own email client.

Change your name. Edit it in your profile.

Delete a saved result. Delete them one at a time from your saved results.

Delete your account. Do it yourself from your profile. It removes your account row, your sign-in links, your sessions and every result you saved. It is a real deletion, not a hidden flag.

Ask for a copy of your data. We haven't built a download button yet. Email us and we'll put it together by hand.

Shared links. A shared result link has no owner and is not deleted when you delete your account, because it was never connected to your account. We currently keep shared snapshots so that a link you gave someone keeps working. That is under review. If you want one taken down, email us with the link and we'll remove it.

This site is for adults researching appliance purchases. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

This page is interim. When the full policy is settled with legal advice, it replaces this one and the date at the top changes.
