Types of fridge
Which style is right for your home and household?
French door
Families of 4+ with large kitchens
Two narrow fridge doors on top, a freezer drawer below. Maximum fridge visibility, wide shelves fit large platters. Premium price point but the most popular style for larger households.
Bottom mount
Most households — the practical all-rounder
Single fridge door on top, freezer drawer below. Better ergonomics than top mount (fridge at eye level) at a lower cost than French door. The sweet spot for most Australian families.
Top mount
Renters, smaller households, tight budgets
Fridge on the bottom, freezer on top. The most affordable style with the largest range of sizes. Lower energy use at smaller capacities. Less ergonomic (you bend to reach the fridge) but hard to beat on price.
Side by side
Households that need deep freezer access
Fridge and freezer as full-height columns side by side. Easy access to both at once. Requires a wide opening — not suited to galley kitchens. Often includes ice and water dispensers.
