Wall canopy
Cooktops against a wall - the default choice
A visible canopy mounted on the wall above the cooktop, usually with a flue running up to the ceiling. The largest group we list at 103 of 252 models, with the widest range of sizes and extraction rates.
Integrated / under-cupboard
Kitchens with an overhead cabinet above the cooktop
Fits inside or under an overhead cabinet so only the underside shows. 67 of the models we list. Keeps the cupboard space above the cooktop, and keeps the hood out of the sightline.
Slide-out
Small kitchens, occasional heavy cooking
Sits flush under a cabinet and pulls forward when you cook, extending the capture area only when you need it. 27 of the models we list. The pull-out action is also the on switch on most models.
Undermount / built-in
Custom joinery, concealed installations
The motor and filters are recessed into cabinetry or a bulkhead, with no visible appliance at all. 24 of the models we list. Cleanest look of any type, and the most joinery to get right.
The hood should be at least as wide as the cooktop under it.
